The first Grand Sacre de Villedieu-les-Poêles was celebrated on May 27, 1655, thanks to the efforts of the Compagnie du Très Saint-Sacrement de l'Autel, founded in the town the previous year. A history that continues to this day, with a religious procession through the town every four years, welcoming a delegation of Knights of Malta.

2024 program

9:15 am: Procession forms at Place du Pussoir-Fidèle.

9:30 am: Liturgical welcome for members of the Association Française de l?Ordre Souverain de Malte and civil and religious dignitaries, followed by a procession to Notre-Dame church, where the Veni Creator is sung. The procession then proceeds to the Parc de la Commanderie, to the tolling of the bells.

10:00 am: Arrival at Parc de la Commanderie, Solemn Mass

12:00 pm: Photograph on the steps of the Town Hall by the Knights of Malta delegation and all the civil and religious dignitaries.

3:00 pm: Eucharistic procession through the town (9 repositories), in the presence of members of the French Association of the Sovereign Order of Malta.

6:00 pm: End of the Procession ? Place de la République (last resting place).
