The Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg, France's favourite monument 2022
The Cité de la Mer is dedicated to the adventure of Man and the Sea and the emotions of the deep. The Normandy site has been elected France's favourite monument for 2022, for its building, the former Gare Maritime Transatlantique and the submarine Le Redoutable.
In the Grand Gallery, follow in the footsteps of the explorers and machines that have marked the adventure of men under the sea. Come aboard the Redoutable*, a unique experience, with a multilingual audioguide for the visit of the submarine.
*For safety reasons, children under 5 years old are not allowed to visit the submarine.
Relive the last hours of the Titanic. With, from spring 2022, a new exhibition of objects recovered from the wreck: decorations and equipment from the liner, passengers' effects. With the majestic Baggage Room**, discover the time when Cherbourg was nicknamed "Gateway to the Americas".
**The Luggage Room is not accessible during cruise ship calls.
In the Ocean of the Future, explore the last wilderness on the planet, around spectacular multimedia spaces, an abyssal aquarium and magical pools. Two projections*** are proposed in the auditorium: "20 days for Cherbourg" on June 1944, and "When the sea tells the story of Normandy".
